Ok horribly shitty English out of the way, let's get down to brass tacks. I seriously do not understand stancing. I fully understand lowriders. I have many Cholo family members who at one point or another, mostly between stints in lockup, participated in lowrider and hyrdaulic cultures. Low riders are still kind of fucking cool to me, but stancing seems like some kind of hipster take on modifying car. Like maybe they are doing it in protest. I have this horrible monologue of stancers in my head all the time.
"Hey, braj. You through getting swagged out for school (or whatever, I don't know these kinds of people)?"
"Yeah, except I need to make sure my car is as ridiculous as my skinny jeans, oddly shaped skate shoes, flat-billed hat, random hodge-podge mess of tattoos, 80s glasses, and tank top."
"How are you going to do that?"
"Well, you know how we dress like this because it's ironic and opposite of how people are supposed to dress when they are anywhere besides the beach?"
"Yes."
"Well, what if we cut the springs on my car, kind of like a low-rider, except we won't put in hydraulics or airbags, and instead we will put in a camber kit that makes the wheels look like a bowlegged prison bitch who just got his b*hole blown out?"
"That'd be so swag dude, hey can we put some of that handwriting that they don't teach in school anymore on the windows?"
"Yeah, what was that stuff called? Cursive?"
"Yeah that's it. We can make it say something like 'hard-parked' like the car was driven so hard and fast that when we parked it, it was exhausted and needed to sleep."
"Braj, that's so swag."
"Ha, yeah swag."
"Swag."
I recently saw a beat up, front-bumper-less WRX (old body style) that was stanced horribly. The two teenagers driving it had the calligraphy stickers all over the windshield and rear window. They had the bumper off I suppose so that they could work on the chopped suspension. Note this car was beige/grey, it had the stretched to fit tires and the horrifying camber kit.
But wait, there's more:
IT HAD A FUCKING ROLL CAGE AND STRIPPED OUT INTERIOR!!?!?!?!
Seriously, what the fuck are you doing kid? I even asked the kid what's the point of the roll cage. He replied, "It's for looks." And then he and his buddy proceeded to drive around the Walgreens parking lot in weird ovals (because they could not complete a circle due to the stanced front end).
For your time have a cool low-rider:
And have this beetle, this is my example of making a car look exhausted:
And also have a car that I hope no stance nation kid ever gets a hold of

I know many people who think stancing improves the handling of the car. These people are dumb.

Too late! pretty unusable ride height right here. (I know nothing of the car for all I know it could have airbags) It looks fantastic I'll give you that, but it totally defeats the purpose of the car.

I thank you for your comment, but I cannot give you a star because of the subject content of it.

those wheels are hideous.

I still think that certain cars do look good stanced but not too much i.e. some older Japanese cars.
But then I saw this and nearly cried.

I agree with the sorrow over the Lotus, but again I am withholding stars for stanced pictures. Make it a meme or a joke about it and I will gladly give them out.

Minus the Tattoos and tank top, and this describes me. Never got tats, and now i'm far to married to be running around in a tank top.

Lowriders have a special place in my heart. I still remember the first time I saw that green 64 in Cube's Today was a Good Day video. Cars like that are timeless.

Damn right!

I give you..... OPPOSITE STANCE!!
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:09 |

This gets ALL THE STARS!!!
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:09 |
|
HELL YEAH!!
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:11 |
|
In all seriousness that is insane as all hell. But cool and still somehow functional.
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:13 |
|
Functional is key when it comes to modifications thats why I'm ok with stance if its on bags
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:14 |
|
No, also I'm taking my stars back
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:15 |
|
Why? if its bagged you could bring it to a ride height that wont destroy the car if its in motion
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:15 |
|
To be fair, this hurts me more than you.
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:15 |
|
Only if it is bagged without a wheel camber kit. If we have a deal you get your stars back.

That's a Land Cruiser, not a Land Rover Defender or Discovery. The bunny is safe.....for now. Also, this looks more like a lowrider.
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:19 |

oh I know its a cruiser...thats why it hurts me most of all. Though I was hoping for a little bunny carnage, maybe just one foot...for luck.

Oh god I hate camber...yuch.

I love Oppo so much. You guys (and gals) are alright.

I pretty sure I just grew chest hair by looking at that pic.

Stance originally was to make a car look like its concept drawings. You know, super aggressive and low. Personally, I don't mind it. These guys don't really want a car to destroy lap times, but to park it somewhere, look at it, nod, and go 'cool,' because it's what makes 'em happy. And if that's what floats their boat, and they still do it, despite all the hate, hey, power to 'em.
![]() 07/07/2014 at 14:58 |

agreed, this is America you keep on liking what you like, i will keep on hating it

I'm so happy that this exists....

Lift is a form of stance, in that its still a stance of sorts.

Ya I know, But if I ignore that fact the joke is funnier

'ring time?

I mean, you like cars, they like cars, just in different ways, can't we all just get along? Who cares, honestly, it's their car they put in hard work for, and it's not affecting you.
![]() 07/07/2014 at 15:47 |

Yeah we are on the same page here. Twas but a rant
![]() 07/07/2014 at 15:49 |

I know I am in the minority here and I hate that I can't say things properly because of my English, but what i see is that you are using stereotypes to define a whole car group/style/whatever.
Not everyone looks like that. Not everyone cuts their springs, it is even looked down on.
It is not all asshole kids with cheap cars with fake mods and bad mods, sure they exist, but they are not the whole group.
I think hydraulics aren't doing a car any good either. Car's are not supposed to jump and move like that. it damages the car. It looks weird too.
I think both styles are ok in moderation. that is the key.
Maybe it is because I am younger than most here on Oppo, but I still for reasons I can not explain really like the extreme stanced cars. I also like stanced cars that are uncommon.

The well-spoken man has appeared. I was just ranting, while I do dislike this subculture mostly because I do not have the money to buy all the cars I want. If I did I doubt I would have any hate toward them, but seeing a stanced Land Rover Discovery and then seeing a stanced e39 M5 (my dream daily driver) which is a car that is designed and built and lauded over for its amazing handling. I dislike when anyone takes something and uses it for a completely opposite and illogical purpose. When I was in middle school, I avidly ran 10k races and 5ks and was very good, often placing not only in my age group but overall, so I developed an illogical hatred for non-athletes and non-runners who wore the same kind of shoes as I did for training. I am one of those people who preserve tools and pieces of equipment solely for their purpose i.e. running shoes are for running only not walking around, not for fashion, not for comfort or ease, I could go into detail more bu then you would the insanity the further down the rabbit hole you might go. I live a purpose-driven life.

So you prefer function over form,
and most stanced cars are more form over function.
I like if they stance a Discovery or other uncommonly stanced car, because not many people have done it, and not many people would do it because it will be difficult to do.

That lotus needs a little less rear camber, but other than that and the black bumpers, I think it looks great.

Hey man, no real harm. It just rustles me a lil bit when people hate on other people for their choices in motor vehicle mods, lifestyle, etc. My thinking is, no matter what, we all are car enthusiasts, and there are way more people who think Camrys are really grounded to the ground. There is strength in unity.

Stancing is hella stupid and no one can convince me otherwise. I am against anything that takes away from functionality unless it's for the sake of performance. Stancing does away w both.
